KNUST Student Dies After Falling from Hostel Building in Ayeduase

A second-year student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has died following a fall from his hostel building on Sunday evening.

Ransford Amankwah Asomani, a level 200 student pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness Management, fell from the storey-building hostel located at Ayeduase, outside the main university campus, on February 8, 2026.

Emergency Response

Fellow students, with assistance from a police patrol team, immediately transported Asomani to the KNUST Hospital. However, medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.

The incident occurred at one of the private hostels that accommodate KNUST students in the Ayeduase area, a community adjacent to the university's main campus, where many off-campus student residences are located.

University Response

Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, KNUST's University Relations Officer, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement issued Monday, February 9, 2026.

"The KNUST police, in collaboration with the university security services, have commenced investigations into the incident," Dr. Bekoe stated. "Management will provide further updates to the media and the public as soon as all the facts are established."

The university has notified the deceased student's parents and is providing support to the family during this difficult time.
