As geopolitical tensions between the West and China escalate, African governments find themselves in an extraordinary moment of strategic leverage — able to attract unprecedented Chinese infrastructure investment precisely because Beijing needs African allies to offset Western-led economic isolation. The competition for African territory, resources, and alignment has never been more commercially valuable for the continent.
Ghana's "24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Secretariat" has signed a landmark MoU with China's Hunan Architectural Design Institute Group (HADI Group) to develop the Volta Economic Corridor — envisioned as Ghana's and Africa's first net-zero green industrial economic zone. The project is projected to create 500,000 direct jobs, transforming the Volta Region into a continental manufacturing and export logistics hub. Success makes Mahama one of Africa's most consequential leaders; failure hands the opposition devastating ammunition.
