The Black Stars Coaching Crisis: Every Day Without A Name Is a Risk

The international football calendar waits for no one. As Ghana continues its search for a successor to the sacked Otto Addo, rival nations qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are already months into structured pre-tournament preparation. Nations like Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt have long-established coaching continuity and tactical systems drilled into their squads over 18 to 24 months. The window for meaningful team-building before a World Cup is extremely narrow, and every week without a confirmed head coach is a week of preparation permanently lost.
The Black Stars qualified for the 2026 World Cup — a tremendous achievement. But qualification without preparation is a one-way ticket to a group-stage humiliation. The GFA has remained largely silent on its coaching shortlist, the timeline for an appointment, and the criteria being used to select the next head coach. Ghanaian football fans deserve transparency. The GFA must immediately disclose its coaching candidate shortlist, the salary budget approved, and the projected appointment date.
