The first quarter of 2026 saw a historic surge in global mergers and acquisitions, specifically in the "megadeal" category. Twenty-two corporate transactions valued at $10 billion or more were announced globally. This consolidation wave is driven by massive cash reserves in top-tier corporations, the AI arms race, and strategic repositioning in the energy sector amidst geopolitical chaos. The giants are getting larger, pooling resources to survive an era of high interest rates.
The $10 billion megadeal wave proves there is no shortage of capital in the global system — it is simply consolidating at the absolute top end of the risk spectrum. Ghana, meanwhile, struggles to secure multimillion dollar sovereign loans. To attract this institutional capital, Ghana must stop pitching fragmented, high-risk micro-projects. We must begin structuring massive, multi-nation, West African infrastructure corridors and green mineral hubs structured as public-private equity partnerships.
