Meta is undergoing a major structural overhaul, cutting roughly 8,000 jobs and reassigning thousands of engineers to focus exclusively on embedding AI agents into its core ecosystem (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp). The restructuring supports Meta's $125B–$145B CapEx plan to build out its AI data center footprint.
Meta's restructuring is a signal that the AI era is moving from experimental apps to operational integration. In Ghana, WhatsApp is the primary operating system for small businesses, customer service, and social commerce. As Meta embeds AI agents directly into WhatsApp, local businesses will gain access to free, highly capable automated customer service and sales agents. Ghanaian businesses must learn to deploy these ecosystem tools to scale operations, while local customer support firms must pivot to higher-value analytical services to survive automation.
