Powering the Nation — Government to Install 1,500 New Transformers Nationwide by End of March

Amidst ongoing concerns about electricity reliability, the Ghanaian government has announced an aggressive infrastructure upgrade. Authorities are aiming to procure and install approximately 1,500 new power transformers nationwide to replace heavily aged and failing equipment. Crucially, the rollout is scheduled to begin and see significant progress by the end of March 2026.

"Dumsor" remains the ultimate political kryptonite in Ghana. Any fluctuation in power supply immediately translates to lost votes and crippled SME productivity. The government's mad dash to install 1,500 transformers effectively acknowledges that the grid has been operating on borrowed time. While the initiative is commendable, execution speed and transparent procurement will be the true test of this promise.
